Verdict
The Fujinon XF 50mm f/2 R WR is no doubt the best of the current "Fujicron" trio. It delivers impressive sharpness across the whole frame, combined with very smooth bokeh. Distortion is handled well by Fuji's auto-correction, but even uncorrected it's not overly excessive. Vignetting is similarly well corrected, but one should be aware of the amount of the lens' native vignetting and the effects that software correction can have on corner noise, especially at higher ISO values.
The build quality is on a very high level - except for the plastic hood. Still, the lens remains quite compact and light-weight.
For some, it might be a viable alternative to the bulky and expensive XF 56/1.2. The XF 50/2 has slightly less reach and a little less background blur potential, but given the quality of its bokeh, it still qualifies as a portrait prime.
All in all, a very nice short tele lens that is a lot of fun to use in the field. No doubt "highly recommended"!
