Verdict
Unfortunately we didn't really fall in love with the Olympus M.Zuiko 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 ED EZ. The zoom range is surely very attractive but performance-wise it has its issues. In the resolution chapter, the lens performs just Okay with slightly soft corners at 12mm and a generally reduced quality at 50mm. The quite high amount of lateral CAs (corners) at 12mm doesn't help either here. The micro-four-thirds system takes care of distortion correction so you don't need to worry here. There is a bit of vignetting at 12mm at f/3.5 but it's not really objectionable at other settings.
In terms of build quality it stays within its consumer-grade scope except for the nice addition of weather sealing. However, on the downside its rather long size feels rather alien for a standard zoom lens on a smallish Micro-Four-Thirds camera. Olympus' MSC AF continues to impress with speedy and noiseless operations. Object tracking remains out-of-scope but this is more of a camera issue for the time being. Conservative users will probably take a while to get used to the motorized zooming mechanism but it certainly comes handy when taking movies.
The pricing was quite steep in the beginning about it came down quite a bit over the recent year. We are still a bit undecided what to think of it. It is surely a very versatile lens but quality-wise there is no real value-add over conventional kit zoom lenses.
