Verdict

The Nikkor AF-S DX 10-24/3.5-4.5 features high resolution figures at most focal lengths and a moderate level of vignetting and CAs. On the downside, barrel distortion is very high at 10 mm and the resolution at the extreme corners is poor wide open at 10 mm and the lens needs to be stopped down to deliver good results here, too. This leaves the impression that the zoom range was forced down to 10 mm.

The build quality is in line with other recent Nikon consumer lenses. Thanks to a silent-wave AF-S drive, the lens is compatible with all Nikon DSLRs and AF action is silent and quite fast for a wide-angle lens. For those who hesitate to consider 3rd party lenses, the AF-S DX 10-24 offers very solid performance, albeit at a price (literally).
