VerdictThe Nikon AF-S DX 35mm f/1.8 performs quite well on the V1 camera at medium aperture settings. However, wide open the lens struggles quite a bit on the high density CX sensor. And at f/8 and beyond, lots of resolution are lost to diffraction, especially at the image borders and corners.
As can be expected from a lens designed for a much larger sensor, distortion and vignetting are no issues at all. CAs are quite pronounced when stopped down, but can easily be taken care of in post processing.
The bokeh, one of the primary aspects for a fast prime, is a bit nervous wide open, but more pleasing slightly stopped down. However, the blur potential of the lens is of course somewhat reduced compared to cameras with larger sensors. In addition, on the high density CX sensor there is a quite high amount of bokeh fringing.
The build quality of the lens is quite good, actually much better than you'd expect given its quite low price. However, allthough it's sonic wave driven, the AF is not really a speed demon.
Given its rather low price (which is even lower than the adapter required to use it) the lens certainly is an interesting option for Nikon 1 shooters. Especially of course for those who also have a DX camera.
