VerdictThe Tokina AF 17-35mm f/4 AT-X Pro FX showed mixed performance in our lab. In the image center, the is capable of excellent resolution, at least when stopped down a little. The border and corners are good to very good at medium focal lenghts, but the extreme corners are somewhat weak at 17mm, especially at large apertures.
Vignetting is somewhat pronounced at 17mm, but well controlled at longer focal lengths. CAs are also a bit on the high side. Distortion is well controlled for such a wide lens, though.
As we've come accustomed to from Tokina, the build quality of the lens is excellent. Thanks to an integrated DC motor the lens is fully compatible with the full range of Nikon DSLR. However, the AF is neither the most silent, nor the fastest one around.
So, in summary mostly solid, but not outstanding performance, with both ups and downs.
