VerdictThe Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 didn't really convince us - at least on the NEX 7. The image center is sharp straight from the max. aperture and even stunning when stopping down. However, the borders aren't all that hot at large apertures although at least very decent beyond f/4. Lateral CAs may be just visible without being disturbing. Distortions are usually auto-corrected either by the camera or your favorite RAW converter. However, when looking behind the scenes, you can spot higher than expected issues here - which is a bit disappointing for a pricey Zeiss lens. The vignetting is also on the high side at fully open aperture. Given its max. aperture of f/1.8, the Touit is obviously meant for speed so it's good to see that the bokeh is of high quality and well controlled bokeh fringing.
Overall we liked the build quality - and looks - of the Zeiss lens. The incorporated materials are obviously of high quality. We weren't totally convinced by the AF but it does an Okay job in terms of AF speed (both on the NEX 7 and A6000) and the generated noise level is quite low.
The question of the day is, of course, how it compares against its rival - the Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS. To be honest ... it's not worth it. The Sony lens has an optical image stabilizer and it's generally sharper than the Zeiss lens although this may be hard to accept by some. That being said it is worth to point out that the Zeiss lens has a better bokeh. The mentioned border issues at max. aperture may also be more relevant in the lab rather than in the real life since you tend to emphasize the center at large apertures and if you want to achieve corner to corner sharpness you'll use an aperture setting around f/8 most of the time.
