Verdict
Similar to its Tamron sister lens the Sony 11-18mm f/4.5-5.6 DT does not convince. At 11mm the critical corner performance is absent and the hefty amount of CAs and pronounced distortions don't make things any better here. The situation is better at 14mm and 18mm but then you don't really want to invest into an ultra-wide zoom lens just to enjoy the performance at the "long" end of the zoom range. On the positive side vignetting is very well controlled and the build quality is relatively fine. The lens had its time during the 6mp DSLR era but this is history - today it is a better idea to have a deeper look at one of the Sigmas (AF 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX, AF 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX) in this range.
