VerdictThe Sigma AF 30mm f/2.8 EX DN is a cute little fellow but not only that - it's good quality stuff, too. This is especially true for the center performance which is nothing short of breathtaking in the relevant aperture range. The image borders & corners aren't quite as hot but decent enough for sure. Distortions are basically absent and you don't really need to worry about vignetting that much either. Unfortunately the amount of lateral CAs is a bit on the high side which reduces the subjective quality perception a bit. While we didn't formally test the bokeh this time it seems to be pretty good when looking at our sample images.
The build quality of this little prime lens is surprisingly good. Thanks to an internal AF the physical length remains constant and the manual focus action feels smooth and without wobbling whatsoever. Sigma's new linear AF motor is both speedy as well as silent. Combine all this with the extremely low price tag and it's obvious that you are getting lots of bangs for your bucks here!
